Who We Are
Officially formed during the Pandemic of 2020, CSU Projects owes its inception to an impassioned conversation dating back to 2017. As a group of experienced commissioning and startup engineers, we identified gaps in the industry we knew could be filled effectively and efficiently. Noted were the unnecessary resource expenditures that often accompanied inexperience wrought forth by non-specialized staffing agencies and engineering consultancies. The results of these issues could be seen in otherwise successful projects missing target budgets and overall timelines.

Growing frustrated with the increasing trend of large multi-disciplined engineering consultancies assigning engineers with little to no field experience and technical troubleshooting expertise to the projects, we decided to work towards building an engineering company that emphasizes on building a team of strong and experienced technical personnel putting our clients' best interests first.

While CSU Projects' focus remains first and foremost the commissioning and startup of processing plants, we have a proven track record of effectively supporting the many stages of a technical project and look forward to helping you with yours.

The Team
Derek Chow
Derek Chow is a professional engineer (P. Eng.) and a graduate of Queens University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mining Engineering and an option in Mineral Processing. With an education based in the mines and a decade of metallurgical processing experience in the field, he has developed a unique understanding of the mining process from raw ore to finished product and the many challenges encountered. He has since found great personal enjoyment commissioning and starting up commercial facilities with a portfolio of successfully completed operating projects to date. Always ready for a challenge, he looks forward to using his experience and expertise to help get your project to the next level.

Justin Wu
Justin graduated from the University of British Columbia's Bachelor of Applied Science program specializing in chemical engineering. After close to a decade in the field of hydrometallurgy process development and engineering, he moved into the field of commissioning and startup for complex processing plants. He enjoys solving difficult problems creatively and safely. With a variety of well developed skillset spanning from process modelling to engineering team management, he enjoys taking part in achieving overall project success.

Ali Safaie
Ali is a professional engineer (P.Eng) with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. He started his career in the Mining industry as a Process Engineer and moved into various roles within the Energy and Mining industries specializing in field operations and optimization for over a decade. Ali's solution focused career and his years of experience working closely with various project disciplines has prepared and motivated him to improve the client's business performance and bottom line.
